Mural Update
Thank you for all your responses to the July 2024 Brookside Hall mural survey!
Based on community feedback, the mural design has been updated with more vibrant colors. The magpie was also swapped out for a bluejay, as per popular demand.
Work on the mural is scheduled to start August 12, 2024. We can’t wait to see this beautiful design come to life in our community! Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see progress photos.
Background Information
The League conducted a preliminary community mural survey in fall 2023, which showed that the majority (72%) of respondents wanted all four walls painted. In addition, 61% of respondents liked the idea of a brightly coloured mural, while 62% liked the idea of nature-inspired colours for the mural (respondents were able to choose more than one option). The most popular mural theme option was nature, with support from 68% of respondents. In second place with 58% support was local activities, features, and animals.
Working with the Edmonton Mural Festival organizers, the League then commissioned Edmonton artist David Thomas to prepare a mural concept that showcases the local natural environment.
Due to the wall’s highly textured surface, very small and detailed images were deemed unfeasible for the mural.
The mural will be funded by the City of Edmonton Community Mural Grant and funds raised at the Brookside Hall Spring Fling fundraiser in April 2023. The mural will have an anti-graffiti coating.
